Meet Jonny

Q: How did you end up here?
Jonny: Since I was young, I’ve always been interested in the way our bodies grow and adapt naturally as a result of movement. I was interested in biology and exercise science in school and I always tried to push my limits in sport to be the fastest and strongest. As a result of my continued maximum effort I experienced a wide variety of injuries, most of which negatively impacted my performance. It was these injuries and the process of recovering from them that pushed me toward the field of Osteopathy. Through practice I grew to enjoy helping others through the healing process which can be a very challenging and dynamic ordeal. I look forward to joining people in my community on their journey to overcome pain and injury.

Q: What inspires you?
Jonny: The strength and determination required to battle through pain and injury and then continue to show up for the challenge’s life throws at you.

Q: What is something you are really good at?
Jonny: Something I feel skilled at is using intuition and empathy to hear all the issues people are concerned with and building a plan to treat them accordingly. I am a very talented listener and I like to take all information into account before creating a treatment plan. I also believe I am good at being honest with patients and informing them when I am not going to be able to treat their condition effectively, at which point I can recommend alternate treatments.

Q: What are you most passionate about personally and professionally?
Jonny: Personally, I am passionate about getting people moving. I believe that exercise in all forms is a massive benefit to people’s health and wellbeing, and a drastically under appreciated stress reliever. Some people believe that movement and exercise must be challenging to be beneficial, but I don’t believe this to be true. Any time you can walk instead of drive, go for a bike ride or dance at a party will increase your strength and vitality for a happier, healthier life. An added bonus is getting your loved ones involved to hold you accountable and improve your relationships. Professionally, I am passionate about giving people a glimpse of hope in the form of less pain. Anytime I can relieve someone’s chronic pain, even if its only for a moment, it gives me a burst of excitement and motivation that fuels me to continue to grow in my field so I can help more people. I believe that all conditions can be helped with the proper treatment and mindset, especially if the patient is willing to put in the effort to improve.

Q: What problems do you consistently help your clients with?
Jonny: With the body being capable of so many different movements around the different joints there is a wide range of possible problems that may arise, especially when we start to get into the injuries and traumas experienced over a lifetime. I would say most commonly I deal with issues related to postural deficiencies. With so many people working from home and sitting at a desk all day with improper posture there is a lot of complaints about lower back pain, neck pain and hip pain. I have had success in the past treating patients with these complaints through joint manipulation and targeted muscle activation but for a long-term fix these will require some work on your part as well as some lifestyle changes in some cases. Another problem I see consistently is mid-back pain and shoulder pain. There is a wide variety of factors that could cause this pain and I always enjoy getting to the root of the cause and developing a plan of action.

Q: Favourite things to do?
Jonny: I like to play all sports, mainly hockey and golf. I also enjoy spending time in nature on hikes, running, swimming, kayaking/paddle boarding, spending time with friends and family and snowmobiling/snowboarding in the winter.

Q: Who do you like to work with?

Jonny: I enjoy working with people who are determined to overcome their pain and are open and willing to change their habits and movement patterns to achieve this. I like to treat all kinds of movement dysfunction, from chronic pain debilitating movement to slight imbalances negatively impacting sport performance. As a manual osteopath I am also able to treat conditions related to the visceral organs, if there are blockages or lack of blood flow.
